Homeless Veterans Stand Down

Each October (19th Stand Down this year), the El Paso County Homeless Veterans Coalition (EPCHVC) conducts a one-day “Stand Down” (projected to assist 180 Homeless Veterans this October, assisted 196 Needy and Homeless Veterans in 2018, 243 Needy and Homeless Veterans in 2015 and 153 Homeless Veterans in 2014) followed with a multi-day Transitional Housing Initiative (THI) (projected to assist 7 Family Units (28 people) for 30 days for 2017, assisted 15 Family Units 32 people) for 30 days in 2016 during which Homeless Veteran’s and their families get immediate help and assistance obtaining viable solutions to their particular homelessness situation.
At the Stand Down –
Clothing (jackets, jeans, shirts, boots, shoes, underwear, long johns, socks, gloves, scarves) – backpacks – personal care items – a hot noon meal – haircuts – hot showers – flu shots – Hepatitis C testing – dental/foot exams – shelter and housing referrals (VA and Rocky Mountain Human Services) – counseling – VA Medical Care referrals – Veterans Administration benefits – job search support — substance abuse services – assistance with DD-214 military service discharge documents – Salvation Army – Red Cross – Department of Human Services – Springs Rescue Mission – Peak Military Care Network and Mt Carmel Veterans Service Center.
